The selection and configuration of refractories should be based on the operating environment (raw material composition and batch melting demand, temperature system, atmosphere, pressure, as well as the flame condition of fuel combustion) and the causes of burning loss and erosion of refractory materials. According to the design age of glass kiln and the burning loss and erosion rate of refractories used in various parts of the furnace, the refractory materials which can reach the design age and reduce the burning loss and erosion shall be selected and configured according to the physical and chemical performance indexes and the appearance size meeting the requirements. At service temperature, two different refractories with chemical reaction should be avoided. If necessary, transition brick or transition layer should also be set between two different refractory materials. Otherwise, low eutectic point will be formed, on the contrary, the burning loss and erosion of refractories will be accelerated, and the age of glass kiln will be greatly affected.

For refractories used in the contact part of glass liquid, the transverse joint of bricks should be minimized to avoid the erosion of upward drilling. (especially for fused zirconia corundum brick), otherwise the erosion rate of the material will be accelerated. When building refractory materials, the required refractory mud should be the same as brick material. Refractory materials and refractory mud of different materials shall not be mixed. In the selection and configuration of refractories, it should be economic and reasonable, and the matching should be appropriate. The high-grade refractories should be selected for the parts where the high-grade refractories should be selected. Otherwise, it will not only affect the age of glass kiln, but also cause great waste and poor economic rationality.
